Diversity 101: The Basics – 3-Hour Training

“DIVERSITY” has become the code word for most industries, professions, organizations, and associations. Yet, leaders and workers often do not know what it means or entails. Every constituent in every organization should have a fundamental understanding of the concept of diversity as it applies in that organization. It always means more
than numbers and racial, ethnic, and gender representation, though those are important, too. Diversity allows groups, associations, and businesses to leverage the broadest array of talent, skills, and ability for their betterment.

This program will provide a review of the basics of diversity. It is regularly updated to reflect the latest evidence-based information and data. It is also designed to align with the legal mandates that govern employers, employees, contractors, and affiliates.

Through a combination of lectures and interactive engagement tools, participants will learn the fundamentals of diversity. (Sample timed-agenda available upon request.)

The training does not require any prior knowledge and uses proven, effective methods of instruction.

Topics include:

The general concept of diversity

  • The latest data on diversity and the most effective diversity efforts
  • Identity-related statuses and demographic data
  • Resources for further education about diversity

Participants will gain the following skills:

  • Active listening for better interracial and inter-group communication
  • Productive communication on diversity subjects
  • Forming elucidating questions
  • Managing emotions and increasing resiliency when confronting diversity-related issues

  • Reality testing to identify objective and subjective “truths”
  • Working through impasse and reaching agreement

At the conclusion of the training, all participants will have had an opportunity to gather knowledge about diversity efforts in the 21st century.
