Richard C. Tynan recently participated in the successful defense of a psychiatrist and his medical group. The case involved a patient who committed suicide by hanging while a resident of a drug treatment facility. Claims being advanced included failure to appreciate and properly assess suicidal thoughts, improper prescription and monitoring of benzodiazepines and patient abandonment. The trial consumed an entire month and numerous experts were presented to the jury including an oncologist, a toxicologist, a psychiatrist and an economist.
