Connecticut’s Hospitals Receive Over $79.2 Million Dollars in Medicaid Rate Appeals and Tax Refunds as the First Part of a Total Package Worth $1.8 Billion over the Settlement Period

Halloran Sage attorney Arnold Menchel represented a range of Connecticut hospitals and was part of the team of lawyers representing the Connecticut Hospital Association in procedural and substantive challenges regarding state and federal statutes and regulations with respect to Medicaid rate-setting and the Connecticut Hospitals Tax.

As a result of a global settlement, various hospitals in Connecticut are estimated to receive approximately $1.8 billion over the settlement period.

The settlement, lauded by the Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Attorney General William Tong, was ratified by the Connecticut General Assembly in December, 2019 and by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and approved by the Connecticut Superior Court in June, 2020. The agreement redefines the relationship between the State of Connecticut and its hospitals.
