Halloran & Sage Attorney Kenneth Slater Jr. recently participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (“MDA”) Hartford Lock Up 2009 to help Jerry’s Kids. The forewarned jailbird was issued a warrant and taken to Agave Grill in Hartford, CT, which had been transformed into a giant jail cell. In order to be released, all prisoners had to make phone calls and raise bail money. All bail money was donated to the MDA.
Prisoner Kenneth Slater knew about his “sentence” weeks in advance. He prepared and made lists of clients and friends to call and e-mail in hopes of making his bail. Kenneth had a very positive response, with most of the people donating generously.
MDA serves people in the community with neuromuscular diseases by providing clinics, support groups, assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs, braces and communication devices, and summer camp for kids. MDA also funds research grants to help fund treatments and cures for some 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages, right here in our community.
The Hartford’s MDA Lockup raised nearly $47,000, exceeding its goal.
