Hon. Angela Robinson will speak at the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA)’s 2021 Annual Convention on the panel, “Encountering Sexism & Racism In The Practice Of Law” this Thursday, June 24th at 2:45 p.m.
Per the session description: When implicit bias presents itself, from a judicial officer and/or opposing counsel, it can be both demeaning and frustrating, and gives attorneys pause as to whether the case will be fairly adjudicated or not based on the immutable characteristics of the attorney. This panel will address mechanisms for all attorneys to recognize the conscious (or unconscious) stereotyping of attorneys based on numerous factors & how to confront these implicit and explicit biases. This session will also provide information to non-minority attorneys on how to recognize when these situations are occurring, and what they can do to help stop the spread of stereotypes and implicit bias in decision making.
As a retired Connecticut Superior Court Judge, Angela provides alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services as a mediator, private judge, and arbitrator for matters including tort, personal injury, commercial disputes, contract disputes, and select housing and family law. She also provides pre-litigation interventions, including discovery dispute resolution assistance and independent investigations.
