Accelerate State’s Brownfield Redevelopment By:Ann Catino, The Hartford Courant Cities have been the centerpiece of Connecticut’s economy for more than 150 years. All municipalities, however, contributed significantly to the state’s growth. In recent decades, businesses in the heart of every municipality fell victim to hard times or a changing demand for goods and services. Mills, machine shops, local printers, dry cleaners, gas stations and auto body shops, to name a few, once thrived. Now their ghostly, aging buildings are often abandoned — constant reminders of lost economic prosperity. These brownfields require considerable attention from an economic development and environmental perspective.
