Attorneys Joseph Fortner and Jennifer Pedevillano will attend and present at the ALFA International Business Litigation seminar this week, September 8 – 10, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This year’s seminar, “The World Turns & Business Litigation Marches Forward,” is organized around the theme of a post-crisis inflection point for resolution of accumulated grievances. Presentations and roundtable discussions will examine common business litigation problems arising in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joe will moderate the segment, “Force Majeure in the Age of the Four Horsemen: Contractual and Extra-Contractual Defenses to Performance During Times of War, Pestilence, Famine, and Wild Beasts,” which will explore new understanding of force majeure clauses brought about by not just the pandemic, but also in the context of the many disruptions now affecting businesses. Joe’s panel will discuss how existing clauses are being addressed, both in caselaw and practical business dealings, in the current environment. They will also offer recommendations on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating clauses designed to address the “next” event.
Jen will speak as a panelist for the timely segment, “Hot Legal Issues in Dynamic Times.” She and her colleagues will address in a fast-moving format leading edge legal issues which are confronting businesses in this ever-changing environment.
Joe is the Chair Emeritus of ALFA’s Business Litigation Practice Group and a member of its Steering Committee, a member of AFLAI’s International Client Seminar Planning Committee, a frequent presenter at ALFAI conferences, and was recently named to 2023 “Best Lawyers.” Jen is member of ALFA’s Business Litigation Practice Group’s Steering Committee, and its Social Media Chair.
