Firm Recognized for Pro Bono Commitment to Veterans Facing Homelessness

Halloran Sage is the Pro Bono Award recipient of the Hartford County Bar Association Law Day Committee of 2019.

Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC) nominated the firm in recognition of a longstanding and demonstrated pro bono commitment to veterans facing homelessness, described in this way:

Nominated for their dedication to provide direct representation on eviction defense. As an institution, they are a firm where everyone provides pro bono representation – partners and associates. For more than eight years, they have been providing pro bono direct representation to low-income veterans and others facing homelessness. Their attorneys are very skilled, achieve positive results for clients, and clients speak highly of their work.

The mission of CVLC is to help veterans recovering from homelessness and mental illness overcome legal barriers to housing, healthcare, and income.

The Firm’s exceptional efforts in this regard were covered by statewide media in a Hartford Courant article and on Lite 100.5 WRCH’s weekly public affairs show, Spotlite. In the Courant article, Attorney Gregory Gagne, a veteran and board member of Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC), said the firm “has focused on eviction cases because housing is a critical issue that veterans face.” Attorneys Rachel Fain and Oscar Suarez, Co-Chairs of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee, emphasized that “because Halloran Sage is a large law firm, it has the resources to immediately jump into a case.”

On Lite 100.5, host Mary Scanlon interviewed Greg and Liam Brennan, Executive Director of CVLC. During the interview, they discussed Halloran Sage’s long-standing partnership with CVLC, how CVLC’s services help stabilize veterans’ lives, and ways for others to get involved with the organization.
