Arnold Menchel on Physician Practice Mergers & Acquisitions Trend

Halloran Sage healthcare attorney, Arnold Menchel, was interviewed in the Hartford Business Journal article, “CT looks to beef up scrutiny over physician practice mergers.” The article highlights the consolidation trend in the healthcare industry and its potential causes, as well as a bill passed in response by state lawmakers earlier this year. The legislation requires the Office of Health Strategy to establish a working group to study and recommend new regulations for physician practice mergers and acquisitions.

From the article:

Halloran & Sage attorney Arnold Menchel has been a healthcare specialist and expert since 1979, including 33 years working in the Connecticut attorney general’s office.

The goal for everyone, Menchel said, should be quality health care at an affordable price. To that end, Menchel said working group members must be willing to compromise and offer solutions that are fair and well thought out.

“I’d want to see the working group be well balanced…” Menchel said. “That includes patients, providers and payers being well represented. This is such a huge multifaceted problem that they can devote the next 40 years to it.”

Arnold is the Chair of Halloran Sage’s Health Care practice. He worked for three decades at the state attorney general’s office handling cases involving Medicaid audits and Medicaid rate-setting, HIPAA enforcement, and health insurance coverage prior to joining the firm. He has continued to handle the same types of matters as well as others since joining Halloran Sage nine years ago.
