Halloran Sage was the presenting sponsor of the recent Connecticut Women’s Council luncheon in West Hartford. Environmental attorney Ann Catino introduced the former United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Gina McCarthy, who provided her perspective on “Environmental Leadership: Integrating Science, Public Policy, and Political Rhetoric.” As EPA Administrator, Ms. McCarthy negotiated the Clean Power Plan, the first-ever national standards for reducing carbon emissions, and spearheaded efforts that secured the Paris Climate Agreement. Prior to her joining President Obama’s cabinet, she was the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. She has been advocating for strategies to protect the environment and public health for over thirty years and now teaches at Harvard University, where she also serves as the Director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment.
