Ann Catino, chair of the Environmental and Land Use Practice Group was featured on several segments of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s Business Minute. Ann is Co-chair of the Brownfields Task Force which sent the Connecticut State Legislature a report on the rehabilitation and use of Brownfields sites this winter.
In these radio broadcasts, Ann explained what Brownfields are, and the challenges presented by these properties and the additional complications when the properties are considered for redevelopment. There are thousands of Brownfields sites in Connecticut and the revitalization of them can add enormous value towns and communities throughout the state. Brownfields redevelopment is part of a smart growth strategy, which involves positioning a business development near transportation corridors and utilities. Strategies implemented when rehabilitating Brownfields sites includes DEP remediation standards that set forth the level of clean up required for any site.
