We’re invested in our team, our clients, and our community. We hire for cultural fit, capability, and drive, and we seek team members who will collaborate to best serve each of our clients. By putting our clients first, all members of our firm—attorneys and staff alike—make excellence our priority. We are a team that turns challenges into opportunities, and we provide an approach to each legal matter that sets the client up for long-term success.

Halloran Sage cultivates a culture of possibility. Our firm strives to put our people on the best path forward, offering employees rewarding and challenging professional opportunities. We also seek to learn from and contribute to the communities we serve, within our firm, in our industry and client groups, and locally.

Diversity and Inclusion

Halloran Sage is committed to building a firm that reflects the diverse community in which we live. We promote inclusion and a culture where every person is encouraged to excel.

Women’s Initiative

Halloran Sage’s Women’s Initiative represents a firmwide effort toward the recruitment, retention and advancement of women attorneys. The group objectives include fostering strong internal relationships, expanding business contacts, and building leadership skills. Monthly meetings contain both an educational and social component and provide an opportunity for members across practice areas and locations to exchange ideas and insights.

Our Pledge

Halloran Sage is fully committed to enhancing racial, ethnic and cultural diversity within our firm. Diversity encourages enriched thinking, varied perspectives and insightful solutions, all of which are critical components in providing superior service to our clients. Through our recruitment, retention and development, our goal is to build a firm that reflects the diverse community in which we live and work.

In 2016, Halloran Sage became an inaugural signatory to the Connecticut Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Pledge, declaring diversity and inclusion as core values of the firm. To carry out this pledge, we allocated the firm’s full philosophical and financial support towards self assessment and created a senior-level Diversity Committee, which is charged with the oversight of all diversity initiatives throughout our firm. Key facets of our diversity initiatives are:

Recruitment. We actively recruit associates and lateral attorneys from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. We participate in several collaborative relationships and initiatives that further this goal.
Retention. We strive to create and maintain an environment that promotes ethnic and cultural diversity over the long term.
Development and advancement. Our attorneys are active in numerous organizations that support the professional development and advancement of attorneys from diverse backgrounds.
Training. We recognize that a critical component of an inclusive culture is the recognition and confrontation of implicit biases. Halloran Sage tackles that challenge through formalized, internal training for all attorneys and staff.
Community. As one of the area’s largest law firms, we are committed to making a difference in our community. We dedicate time, talent and financial resources to a range of programs and events that foster and celebrate our community’s diversity.

By promoting and affirming these commitments, Halloran Sage not only strengthens its own capabilities, we also seek to positively impact the fair and just application of law and the public’s trust in the administration of justice.

Diversity Committee

A senior-level Diversity Committee oversees the recruitment, retention, and advancement of attorneys from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This Committee is a crucial element of the infrastructure in place to promote diversity and inclusion at the firm, providing direction and assessment in education and training, hiring, retention, and career advancement initiatives for individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Legal Opportunities

Halloran Sage offers a rewarding career to attorneys committed to providing legal excellence and superior client service. Our vibrant community promotes collaboration and teamwork. Halloran Sage welcomes inquiries from experienced attorneys seeking new challenges and opportunities in their careers. We are always on the look-out for attorneys who can help our firm expand the depth and breadth of its practices.

The lateral candidates we seek are lawyers who are inspired by legal challenges, complex issues, and a sophisticated practice. Members of our firm are bright and enthusiastic, and we seek the same in potential new hires, along with a demonstrated record of practical experience. You must also bring a commitment to personal and professional development within your chosen area of law, a commitment to excellence and client service, and a desire to learn, grow, and lead.

Associates

Halloran Sage offers associates a well-defined track to success. A career with this firm is a mutual investment in your future and ours. The investment pays dividends from day one, with opportunities for advancement and a training and mentoring program. The abilities you reveal and the skills you develop as an associate mark your path to partnership and leadership.

We help you along the path and encourage you to blaze your own trail. We seek new associates who have set their sights on becoming an essential member of a high functioning, responsive team that takes pride in working together to provide clients with their best path forward. New associates conduct depositions, participate in trials, and become involved in significant transactions. More senior associates are on their feet in the courtroom before others elsewhere ever leave the law library. You set the pace of your career through your own skill and effort. We provide extensive training, careful mentoring, and close collaboration. You will provide a “can do” attitude, a commitment to excellence and client service, and the desire to learn, grow, and lead. Even our top partners take active roles in your mentoring and training.

The hiring of associates newly admitted to the bar is the responsibility of Halloran Sage’s recruiting committee. The committee is composed of attorneys with different levels of experience and from diverse practice groups. This enables us to provide applicants with a broad understanding of our firm’s depth and breadth.

When you interview for a position at Halloran Sage, you will meet with one or more members of this committee. They are:

              • Brian Enright
              • Kevin Greene
              • Casey O’Connell
              • Jennifer Pedevillano
              • Kevin Roche
              • Oscar Suarez

Our attorneys work hard, but never to the exclusion of their families or their communities. The more well-rounded the individual, we believe, the better the lawyer. Our partners and associates excel at law, but they also excel as parents, as community leaders, and as good citizens.

Our firm is committed to diversity. We recognize its value to our firm, to our profession, and to our community. Throughout our firm, we offer equal opportunities for employment and promotion. We carry those principles through to our recruiting and to all our internal policies and procedures. Our firm is also committed to providing legal services to those in need. Rather than maintain a formal pro bono program, we encourage all our attorneys – from senior partners to new associates – to pursue pro bono opportunities based on their interests and skills.

Attorney Training and Development

Because we view professional training as an investment in your future and ours, it is ingrained in the culture of the firm. Our training and professional development programs focus on equipping you with the legal and business skills that will enable you to succeed as a lawyer. What you do with those skills is up to you. These programs are developed and presented by experienced partners. They provide practical knowledge drawn from our broad base of practice areas.

Associates have opportunities to be trained by a variety of partners and tap into the unique knowledge, skills, and insights of each. This flexible approach allows associates to learn courtroom skills from our veteran litigators, transactional skills from our top dealmakers, and business-development skills from successful marketers. In whatever direction your professional interests evolve, you will be able to draw upon our firm’s breadth of talent and experience.

We open our training programs to all attorneys in the firm and we encourage lawyers to participate in outside seminars and conferences. The firm underwrites the cost of continuing legal education, membership in professional organizations, and attendance at outside seminars.

We believe in our Purpose as a firm—creating possibility through resolution. Our Values, Mission, and Promise of the best path forward is built upon the conditions we seek to create and how we choose to act and interact with each other. We as a firm work together to continually develop leadership skills which enable all firm members to create conditions through conscious actions which strive to promote our culture of possibility.
