Trent Kaisen focuses his litigation practice on guiding municipal entities in administrative appeals of land use decisions, zoning enforcement actions, and foreclosure suits at the Connecticut Superior and Appellate Courts. At the administrative level, he counsels’ municipalities on the enactment of local ordinances and regulations, compliance matters with state and federal statutes and regulations, and public hearing procedures for local land use agencies. Trent combines meticulous attention to detail with efficiency as he analyzes complex legal issues and works to achieve his clients’ broader objectives. He is the newest member of the firms municipal practice group which represents more than half of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities, as well as numerous national, regional, and private entities.
Prior to earning his JD, Trent was a Halloran Sage Summer Associate and Law Clerk. In law school, he sharpened his written and oral advocacy skills appearing and arguing in the State’s Superior Courts as a court-appointed advocate with UConn’s Animal Law clinic. Trent was also a Teaching Assistant for UConn’s first-year Legal Writing Program and a member of UConn’s Mock Trial Society. During his first year of law school, Trent gained substantive exposure to municipal law as a legal intern for the City of New Haven.
Prior to law school, Trent worked as a legal assistant at a plaintiff’s personal injury firm in New Haven. As an undergrad, he was a Founding and Managing Editor of the journal, Society, Justice, and the Law and also served as a Regional Director for the National Collegiate Club Golf Association and President of Southern Connecticut State University’s golf club.
