Steven McHugh handles all areas of Intellectual Property Law, including patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution, enforcement, defense, and licensing, as well as infringement, due diligence, right-to-use, and validity studies/opinions. He prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications and advises clients on how to efficiently and cost-effectively manage their IP portfolios to maximize protection. Prior to joining Halloran Sage, Steve owned his own law firm for approximately 22 years and has also practiced at other national and international IP firms.

Steve provides counsel to a diverse range of clients, from multinational corporations to startups, small businesses, and innovators. His corporate clients include manufacturers of plastic extrusion/conversion equipment/machines, portable power systems, lightning strike protection (LSP) solutions for aircraft, food products, recreational/industrial equipment and firearm components/ammunition solutions. He frequently advises members of the tech and science industries, as well as creative professionals.

Steve drafts and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications related to electrical, computer, mechanical systems, medical devices and exercise/sports equipment. His expertise spans computer hardware and software, laboratory instrumentation, nanotechnology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), microfluidic devices, etching processes (dry and wet), signal processing, automotive power systems, vision inspection systems, medical imaging technologies (CT, MRI, PET), LASER applications, metallurgy, compressor systems, medical devices, product dispensing systems, and exercise device communication methods and systems.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Steve worked for United Technologies Corporation Sikorsky Aircraft Division, Timex Corporation, and Dictaphone Corporation as an electrical engineer.
