Her practice is distinguished by a progressive approach to understanding the clients’ business and legal challenges by proactively focusing on successful solutions compatible with the clients’ business and cost objectives.
Gerri has extensive experience with False Claims Act/qui tam investigations and litigation, health care regulatory matters, medicolegal issues, government payers, managed care organizations, and healthcare litigation.
Previously, Gerri served for 14 years as a Special Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the New York Attorney General. She represented New York State under the whistleblower provisions of its False Claims Act and other fraud and abuse statutes, including its anti-kickback law, in investigations, civil litigation, and settlement negotiations. Her work resulted in significant monetary recoveries for the New York State Medicaid program. In this capacity, she litigated complex healthcare fraud cases and managed multidisciplinary investigation teams comprised of auditors and investigators in coordination with state, local, and federal agencies, Medicaid managed care organizations and/or other prosecutorial offices. These investigations related to pharmaceutical and medical device companies, imaging centers, behavioral health providers, physician/dental practice groups, laboratories, pharmacies, utilization benefit managers, substance abuse clinics, hospital systems, and long-term care facilities. Gerri was a co-leader and member of both national state investigatory and settlement teams working with the Department of Justice through the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units (NAMFCU). She received an HHS/OIG Award for Excellence as a Member of the Small Smiles Investigation Team in 2010.
In addition, Gerri was Senior Counsel at a major integrated care-delivery system. She provided advice regarding compliance, quality assurance, risk management, medicolegal, and regulatory matters including reimbursement, privacy/HIPAA, government inquiries, HIM, and licensing.
At a premier Northeast law firm, Gerri defended hospital systems, physicians, dentists, and allied health professionals in all aspects of medical malpractice actions prior to her role at the Office of the New York Attorney General.
