"I connect people and ideas with resources and strategies to foster a vibrant community."

Karl-Erik Sternlof is a long-time New London resident and an ambitious advocate of commercial development in eastern Connecticut. He served for over ten years as Vice President of the City’s Municipal Development Corporation, and is currently Corporation Counsel for the entity, now named the Renaissance Community Development Association, Inc. An attorney with over thirty-five years of experience, community development and personal interactions are at the core of Karl’s practice, and he is never more satisfied than when he can help move people to where they want to be.

Karl provides legal assistance to his clients regarding all business matters of structure and operations, including setting up business entities, drafting contracts for purchase and sale, and structuring commercial transactions. He also has experience in international transactions involving the purchase, sale, licensing, registration and transfer of commercial and recreational vessels with the United States Coast Guard and the state of Connecticut.

With his broad knowledge base and pragmatic approach, Karl’s clients view him as a businessman with the capacity to guide them through the legal aspects of a deal. It is his belief that a successful transaction should maximize the benefit to the client without jeopardizing the integrity of the deal itself. With this mindset, he represents individuals, businesses and lending institutions in commercial transactions, providing legal assistance in the purchase and sale of businesses and the purchase, sale, development, and lease of commercial property.

Additionally, Karl has an extensive background in Native American legal issues concerning business transactions in Indian Country or involving Native American entities. He also represents buyers and sellers in residential real estate matters. He has lectured on Native American housing issues and business transactions in Indian Community as well as on banking and commercial real estate.

Karl is active in his local community, currently serving as a Dime Bank Corporator and as President of the Board of Trustees of the Lyman Allyn Museum. He is past Board Member and Board President of Summer Music, Inc., and past Executive Officer of the Renaissance Community Development Association, Inc.
