Henry Beck has recently chosen to transition from partnership to being of counsel to the firm.  As a result, he is transitioning his practice to emphasize pro bono business law assistance to non-profit enterprises.  Henry brings broad experience in the fields of business and finance law to this endeavor specifically with respect to mergers and acquisitions, commercial finance, business governance, stake holder affairs, intellectual property, succession planning, and general business and contract law.

Clients benefit from Henry’s practical experience gathered in prior service with non-profits and as a former hands-on business entrepreneur and CEO of a closely held business.  Henry understands the practical as well as the legal aspects of running a non-profit or for-profit business and the need for a rapid response time. He applies this business management perspective to the legal counsel he provides to clients in a wide range of non-profit and for-profit businesses.

Henry currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the Eastern Region of Hartford Health Care.  He is a Trustee of the Windham Hospital Foundation and a Corporator of Windham Hospital.  Henry is on the Board of Directors of the Chill Foundation, Inc., a non-profit whose mission is to improve the resilience and ability of disadvantaged youth to reach their potential and make strong life choices.  Chill was the recipient of the 2020 ESPN Corporate Community Impact Award.

A science major before law school, Henry maintains a keen interest in science and technology, both through avocation and through his clientele. He serves on the Program Committee of the current Connecticut Science Center and was a trustee, executive committee member and corporate secretary of the former Science Center of Connecticut (now the Children’s Museum in West Hartford).

Henry is very active in his hometown of Columbia, Connecticut.  Henry is Chair of the Finance Committee of the Columbia Congregational Church, a member of its governing board, and its representative to the Sothern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Columbia Lake Association and is Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Columbia West Street Burying Ground Association.  He has served as Columbia Town Attorney since 2003, is an ex officio member of its Charter Review Commission and is a member of its Lake Management Committee.

Henry is a former member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce as the chair of its Small Business Counsel.  Henry formerly served as an appointee to the Secretary of State’s Business Advisory Committee.

Henry’s legal ability and ethical standards have earned him an AV rating from the peer-reviewed legal directory, Martindale-Hubbell. Henry has been recognized by Chambers USA each year since 2012. He is also routinely selected both regionally and nationally to The Best Lawyers in America® and Super Lawyers®  He has been recognized by Best Lawyers® as the Mergers & Acquisitions Attorney of the Year for Hartford, CT for 2017 and 2024, and Securities / Capital Markets Law Attorney for the year for Hartford in 2020.

Throughout his career, Henry has been active in bar association activities.  He is past Chair of the Business Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and a former member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, where, among other committees, he sat on its Middle Market and Small Business Committee. He has served on the faculty of the ABA National Institute on Closely Held Businesses.   Henry has published a number of scholarly business and commercial law articles for bar association periodicals and has been a presenter on a number of continuing legal education panels.

Henry’s leadership has been recognized by his alma mater. He has received the Charles A. Duke Award for his dedicated service on the Executive Committee of the General Alumni Association of Duke University. He received his BS from Duke University, summa cum laude, with honors and distinction. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Henry received his JD from Harvard University Law School, cum laude.
